Kids and Babies

Sewing for a baby

It’s been a long time since my chicklets were little. The youngest is 17 now! Wow, where did the time go? I didn’t have as much available sewing time when they were babies, so they had a very limited amount hand made things. When we got our first grand baby last January, I was so excited to start sewing baby things. IMG_4622Sewing for little ones is so much fun. The pieces are small and lots of projects are pretty quick, like this Newborn gown from Stitched Together.

This quilt wasn’t one of those quick little projects though, haha!

This is Timber! from Rachel Rossi Designs. It was quilted by my friend Sue on her longarm machine. I also made Rachel’s fun and easy Shiplap quilt and took it when we went to visit last summer. (They live on the other side of the US from us). I just love both of these quilts!

This one is made of flannel and so soft! What is even more snuggly is the little blanket and teething toy. No pattern was used for the blanket, and I used Rachel’s tutorial for the teething blanket.

Unfortunately, the package with the teething blankie was stolen before it made it to Virginia.

in the fall, with Abel’s first birthday and Christmas approaching, I started planning more baby things to sew. They were coming to visit after the holidays so I had a little extra time to squeeze in a few things. This little fawn is one of the Wild Things Hot Water Bottle Covers from Twig + Tale. Isn’t he adorable? Be sure to check out the other cute animals. They are great for all ages!

In December, when Suzanne of Winter Wear Designs gave away Christmas htv designs, I fell in love with this moose and just had to put it on something for Abel! Since I had already decided to make some pjs for him, this raglan sweatshirt pattern from Shwin and Shwin was already printed, taped, and waiting on my table. I omitted the hood and used 80% ratio for the neck band. And the Kid’s PJ Pants, also from Winter Wear Designs are one of the many patterns available for free! Now that it’s done, this size 18 months outfit looks more like sweatpants and sweatshirt than pjs, but that’s ok.

P.S. Shwin and Shwin have many free patterns so I sometimes have a difficult time finding what I’m looking for but the Boys boxer briefs are awesome. They only come in one size so I printed at 85% or so to get the right size for my toddler nephew. I wish they were available in all the sizes as I haven’t found another pattern just like it. I made several pair for Christmas in fun little boy prints!

Here is Grandpa (my husband Mike) and Abel trying out his bear towel. The pattern is my own and sold in my  TwoChicklets Etsy shop. Although it looks like this particular one is sold out at the moment, there are many other cute animals to choose from!

This bonnet is another from Twig + Tale. It’s actually the hood from Wild Things Coat. It is super soft fur with flannel lining. The baby moccasins are the Almost a Freebie Baby Moccasins from Dandelions and Dungarees.  They are my first leather shoes!

One last thing. I’ve been wanting to make some Twig + Tale Wild Things Boots for Abel. This pair was soooo hard! I mixed up my Wild Things Boots pattern with the Tie Back Boots and think I ended up with two different sizes.  You can tell by the bunching on the foot. I do not recommend using fleece for these! It’s too thick and shifts when sewing. But I still think they are cute. Happy 1st Birthday Abel!

Now I’m done with baby sewing for a while. Time to move on to other things!
