It’s Time to Stitch with Itch-to-Stitch

 It’s time! It’s time to sew with Itch-to-Stitch! My closet is full of Itch-to-Stitch designs. I’ve been a tester for Kennis since she first showed up on the Facebook scene with a tester call for Marbella! Her designs are unique with details, are the kind of things I wear, fit consistently well, and have excellent instructions with illustrations. They are some of my favorites for sure! The first part of a blog tour after signing up (at least for me) is to decide what to sew. I wanted to make so many things that have been on my “to sew” list! First I chose the Anza Dress and Jumpsuit. I didn’t apply to test this pattern because I don’t wear jumpsuits and I guess I was too busy at the time to sew the dress either. Anyway, I love the style of this pattern and wanted to sew it. Actually, I wanted to hack it into a top, but forgot all about that when it came time to cut the fabric. Oops! Next time.

When choosing fabric, I was a rebel and chose this board short material for my dress. It’s from one of our sponsors Mabel Madison. This fabric is awesome! I love the vibrant color and it feels so good on my skin! It ended up being perfect for this dress. Anza calls for 2 1/8 yards of fabric in my size, but since I’m short, I figured I could squeeze it onto 2 yards. Then I decided to skip the pockets since they would just get lost in my busy fabric. I skipped the side pockets too because I don’t use them. All of this should have made this pattern quick to sew, but somehow, things kept getting in the way, so it took about a week to finish. First, I was missing two pages of the pattern and didn’t realize it, so cut out the front skirt piece wrong. Luckily I had enough fabric to cut another front skirt! Then I didn’t have navy buttons. And then it took a few times reading it to wrap my head around putting the bodice and skirt wrong sides together, but it all worked out until I had to lace the drawstring through the waist. That took f o r e v e r!!! But look at my lovely dress! I’m really happy with the silhouette it gives me and so in love with my new dress. My husband loves it too, so win win!

Of course I couldn’t stop at sewing up just one pattern! During Sequoia testing, I sewed only the shorts length and have been wanting a pair of pants ever since. I had copied my changes to my pattern (shorten front rise, low butt adjustment, etc) already so just needed to shorten the legs. Well, they aren’t quite right and I’ll need to tweak where I shorten them for next time (less above the knee and more below the knee), but they are wearable and I love them. And here they are out of a cotton shirting that I had in my stash just for these pants. I tried to be twins with Kennis choosing this color, but I couldn’t get the pose right to duplicate her photo. I left off the side cargo pockets and sewed the rest as written. And look, my shoes match the pants, (not the top)!

Well yes, I needed a top to wear with my Sequoias which was supposed to be a newer than this Chirripo that I ran out of time to sew. But, I didn’t blog this one and it kinda sorta matches, don’t you think? The fabric for this has been in my stash for years. I used some of it for a top several years ago and still had some left. I just love this fabric and had to make another top. The Chirripo Top was perfect but there wasn’t enough fabric left for the waterfall ruffle version which is what I wanted to sew.  Anyway, I shorted the bodice as usual for me, but no other changes on this top. It is the perfect summer top in my opinion and pretty quick to sew. I just love the square neck! I will lower the armscye a little on the next one as it’s a little high for me.

Here’s my butt shot beautiful back pockets with matching KAM snaps. I just love using these snaps and they are so easy to apply!
