After having visiting family for most of March, I was antsy to get sewing again so when the Petite Stitchery blog tour showed up in my feed, I jumped at the chance. We were able to choose a pattern from Petite Stitchery to sew for the tour. I’ve never sewn anything from this company before, so it was exciting to browse through the choices. I tried to choose something that was different than what I already have (which is hard to do when you have soooo many patterns)! I decided on the Juliet Leotard because the beautiful scooped neckline kept drawing my eye. I didn’t know it came with a bonus circle skirt when I chose the top! I remember bodysuits when they were popular way back when, and wasn’t sure I was ready to try it again; so I hacked the leotard into a regular top. It was easy; I just held up the pattern piece to me and decided where to cut it straight across. I am amazed at how well it fits on the first try!
I wasn’t sure I would make the circle skirt for the blog tour, but I had a bit of time and figured a circle skirt would be quick to sew. I went with the shorter line since everything is usually too long for my 5′ 2″ height, and then regretted it when the skirt ended up too short! I decided to alter the waistband to be able to wear the skirt lower on my hips to help with length.
This is what it looked like after cutting a high hip measurement and angling to my waist measurement and sewing the sides. The idea was good but the angle was not big enough, so the waistband is saggy near the top. Maybe I’ll fix it another time after deciding if I like the look on me. For the photo shoot, I chose to have a slouchy waistband since I couldn’t think of another option.
