Adalynn is the new dress from Mama Can Do It. There is a girl’s version here and a baby version here so you can make mommy and me sets if you like. I rarely wear dresses in the winter and loved the long sleeve look of Adalynn but wanted it in a tunic length to go with these awesome leggings I made of some sort of fleece lined softshell that are super soft, comfortable, and warm! Luckily Elizabeth was all for hacking the pattern as long as we post how we did it!
What I did is super easy and not much of a hack at all. After shortening the pattern for my 5′ 2″ height by 3″ on the lengthen/shorten line, I cut my fabric at the ruffle option cut line. My tunic was still too long for me so I did a 1 1/2″ hem. The fabric is a gorgeous sweater knit with silver threads running through it that I bought at my local warehouse fabric store, SAS a few months ago (where you never know what treasures you will find).
I love this Adalynn tunic so much already; I didn’t want to take it off after pictures! Except that it was close to 80 degrees F. so I needed to save it for a cold day! My next one is already planned and I will sew the neck with the binding the proper way. I read the directions, but must not have been thinking straight since I made a neck band instead of the binding, oops!
Make sure you get your Adalynn (affiliate links) while it’s on sale! P.S. I just had to make another in this cool looking fabric!
